The Voyeur by Alberto Moravia

I decided to read a few modern novels in translation and I chose Moravia because of his fame. This is an interesting novel – very psychological and much concerned with sexual motivations. It is also very much a ‘male gaze’ sort of novel, where everything is seen from the male perspective. But it is intriguing, and full of Freudian aspects – the narrator spends a lot of time thinking about his father’s large penis, for example. It also has a period feel, even though it was written in 1985. A reminder of how rapidly the world changes.
