The Book of Imaginary Beings by Jorge Luis Borges

This is a very intriguing little book. It is a collaboration between Borges and two other writers, bringing together various myths and stories about fantastic animals, from China, Central Asia and Europe. It is gently humorous and full of interesting details.

It is, I cannot but assume, the source book for the monsters and beasts in the Harry Potter books, since they are all here.

An unusual book, as good for dipping into as for reading in one go.
