I read this on the recommendation of a friend, when I mentioned I wanted to read a campus novel. It tells the hilarious and bitter story of Sefton Goldberg, a Jewish Cambridge graduate who ends up teaching in an academically less-than-sparkling polytechnic in the north of England.

It is very funny in its teasing approach to class, race and prejudice in Britain. I laughed out loud a few times.

Very good.
